General Motors Corporation manufactured and sold a brand of small vehicles from 1989 to 1998. This short-lived brand of small vehicles was the Geo. The complete array of Geo vehicles was meant to provide a stiff competition to the Japanese import vehicles. These Japanese vehicles had begun to dominate the American automobile scene in the latter half of the 1980s. However, contrary to expectations, the project was not as successful as General motors had expected it to be.

After 1998, the entire range of vehicles in the Geo line-up was absorbed by the Chevrolet division. Prizm, the last car that was an original Geo was last sold under the Chevrolet brand name way back in 2001.

Geo vehicles manufactured from 1989 to 1998 include the Geo Metro, Geo Spectrum, Geo Tracker, Geo Prizm, and Geo Storm. Geo vehicles have a very uncanny resemblance to the appearance of Japanese vehicles. The reason behind this is that most Geo vehicles are manufactured by Japanese auto manufacturers. The other remaining vehicles are manufactured by General Motors in a joint collaboration with Japanese import vehicle manufacturers. Isuzu were the manufacturers of the Geo Spectrum and Geo Storm. The remaining vehicles in the wide range of array were manufactured by a joint-venture operation with either Suzuki or Toyota.

Rarely do we come across vehicles today that are the products of a short-term division of a particular corporation. Nor do we witness brand names existing only for a short time. It is very demanding and exhausting finding parts for such makes of models. The same demanding situation exists with geo vehicles from the house of General Motors. It would not be out of context to assume that only owners of Geo would probably know it is a vehicle brand and worry about the paucity of obtainable Geo parts.
